Whittier to the White House
Tour Stop #3
Just as Richard Nixon had a meteoric rise in American politics, so did his younger brother Don Nixon in business in Whittier.
In 1952 Don opened Nixon’s Drive-In at 13908 Whittier Boulevard, which was well known for its Nixon Burgers.
The drive-in was one of the first drive ins on the west coast. Rumor has it that Ray Croc was a soda salesman who made deliveries at Nixon’s Drive-In, and was intrigued with the idea of calling in orders. Later, Croc acquired his own hamburger stand – which was the birth of McDonalds!
