Tour Stop #5

In addition to the Nixon Drive-In (Tour Stop #3), in 1954 Don Nixon opened Nixon’s Restaurant at 14350 Whittier Boulevard, where the menus read: “Since children are most welcome at Nixon’s – liquor is never served.”

A Nixon Burger – ground fresh round steak on a toasted bun with lettuce, pickle and special dressing was only forty-five cents – to add melted cheese was just a nickel extra. And how about washing it down with “your favorite malt” for only thirty-five cents!
Don was quite the local businessman, with a drive-in, complete market and a coffee shop with bakery all located in East Whittier.
